That which gives Jesus pleasure is to see me loving my littleness and my poverty. It is blind hope that I have in His mercy. St. Therese of Lisieux reflecting on her First Communion Encourage your children, and pray for the grace as adults, to love your littleness and poverty. We do not have to lie about our selves To God... God knows our hearts and looks for a desire to love more, for sorrow and powerlessness,in a sense-- these 'perfections' are what the Tax Collector brought to the temple, and he left justified. We come with empty hands to Communion, with hearts hungry for mercy, for peace, for strength to love. If we come with such hunger, we give the good God a throne made with our hands as we hold them out, and with our hearts. If we come full of ourselves, or our own plans and with boasting, what can God give us? Where can he make His home? As St. Francis de Sales said, " Our misery is the throne for His mercy." |
